Case study: Highways and Traffic Management
Milton Keynes Highways team experienced several reports of commercial vehicle operators parking up within the electric vehicle charging bays, with many of these vehicles staying there for long periods of time. This resulted in the wider public in many circumstances unable to recharge their vehicles when visiting the charging bays. Crimewave were briefed to conduct an intelligence investigation into this problem.
Our team surveyed the site, specified and installed one camera to review any problems being caused. From this we conducted an ongoing surveillance of the site in which we reviewed all footage each day to create a detailed report and data sheet of how long vehicles were overstaying against the 2-hour maximum period allowed in a charging bay. From reviewing the footage, we were soon able to identify many vehicles overstaying in the charging bays, and we sent our findings to a member of the Highways team, including the identified vehicle index numbers.
From our accumulated evidence, we supplied our findings within an excel spreadsheet to the Highways team to analyse and decide on the appropriate action required. This enabled the Transport department to engage with the operator of the vehicles in question, to ensure that all vehicles were left on charge for the least amount of time necessary. This has resulted in a dramatic increase in vehicle charging point availability for the public to use.
